"Love thy neighbor as thyself" is a pretty good start. Do not do to others what you would not have them do to you. Thou shalt not kill. No man can own another; slavery is wrong.

As a Libertarian, I beleive we are endowed by our creator with the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I am for individual liberty, individual responsibility, and respect or others. I am opposed to dishonesty, theft, fraud, and the aggressive use of force.

Most of my life I have dealt with science, as a teacher, a researcher, and as a manager of others doing science. I believe that scientific methods, objective observation of the real world, are better means to "truth" than tradition, authority, or revelation. Those who do not examine the evidence, who do not study history, are doomed to repeat the mistakes of others.

The history of the 20th century provides us with some obvious lessons:

1. Politicians love the power to spend other people's money.

2. To gain and expand that power, politicians habitually tell lies.

3. To gain and expand that power, politicians tend to spend more than they have, leading to debt and inflation. (From 1920 to 2000, the dollar lost 95 per cent of its value)

4. To expand their power, politicians start wars. Wars are unpleasant for both sides.

5. To expand their power, politians promote socialism.

6. Socialism doesn't work.

The framers of the U.S. constitution knew, from their reading of history, those lessons. they tried to limit the power of the federal government, limit the power of politicians to steal and wage war. I am a "constitutional fundamentalist." I believe it means what it says. I was in the military for 27 years, under oath to defend our constitution, and I take that oath seriously.

With the exception on Representative Ron Paul (R, TX), every congressman has violated his oath to preserve and defend the constitution. We should not tolerate such fraud and hypocrisy.

Am I pro-life? Yes. I assert that if it is a crime to kill women and children by bombing a building in Oklahoma City, it is a crime to kill women and children by bombing buildings in Baghdad. Iraqis are at least as human as fetuses; they ought not to be killed, except in self defense. When I ran in 2002, I said that the proposed war with Iraq would be immoral, illegal, and very risky. I think time has shown be to be correct. Those who voted for war were deficient in intelligence and moral sense; they should not be re-elected.

Erik Buck for congress

I have been, and will continue to be, the Libertarian candidate for U.S. Representative from the 6th district of Missouri.
